In this day and age of myspace and other social & music websites as marketing tools for bands, the amount of music available to the general public is overwhelming. Recording software has revolutionized the music industry and albums are popping up out of basements from around the world. As a music industry consultant I have the pleasure of meeting bands from all over the world on a daily basis and as I sift through this onslaught of talent and quite often, in my opinion, not so talented musical artists’ I have the pleasure of discovering a few gems along the way. Cryonic is one of the gems that I have discovered on this endless journey of aural inundation.
Cryonic deliver stellar musicianship and a lead vocal of high caliber reminiscent of past metal heavyweights, such as Judas Priest. Their melodic tracks entertain the listener and could easily be classified as radio-friendly but at the same time have the ability to satisfy the more critical ears of hard-core metal fans. Cryonic are preparing for the release of their new album titled “Kings Of Avalon”
The members of Cryonic are as follows; Lead Vocals - Bigswede, Guitar - Henke, Guitar - Fredde, Drums - Simon and Bass - Sico. The interesting factor and a key point about this band is the positive energy they exude on stage and behind closed doors. They leave their egos in the closet because it’s all about the music and not any one individual. Bigswede on lead vocals has an excellent range and vocal tones that put him in the same realm as metal vocalist Rob Halford who is an icon in the metal genre. Cryonic are world-class songwriters and understand the power of simplicity combined with speedy guitar solos in the same composition that take the listener from serenity to an outburst of metal angst all in the same breath.
The song “Evil Mind” is a testament to the positive messages that appear in some of their tracks. Another facet of the Cryonic is their impeccable ear for detail in production values and mixing. They have created a viable sounding album that can compete against larger acts with profoundly bigger budgets. After carefully examining a pre-release copy of the upcoming album I discovered that every song was well written and at least half of the songs have potential for mass appeal. Whether the band name Cryonic becomes a household name or not they will certainly garner attention and grow their fan base with this strong release of quality music. The album is distributed through an EMI (USA) affiliated label and with digital distribution on dozens of legal download sites around the world including ITunes and tour plans on the horizon, this Swedish quintet they have set the stage for the possibility of achieving the recognition they deserve. The Cryonic video release as seen on YouTube is a testament to the dedication of a passionate band inching their way up to the next rung of the music industry ladder.
I recently asked the band why they do what they do and heard the answer that I always look for. Cryonic stated that they make music because they love creating songs. It’s something that we must do because we were born to make music. When I hear an artist say “I’m in it for the money” I don’t disrespect them, but I know that what I will hear, most often in these caes, will be music that is sub-par and lacking an almost intangible passion and emotion that is required to rise above the competition on the crowded shelves of CD stores, the hard drives of IPods and the limited air time available on radio station play lists’.
My personal rating of the Cryonic album is a 4 out of 5 stars and I recommend the “Kings Of Avalon” release as a welcome addition to the metal section of you’re CD or MP3 collection. The band’s previous album also earned accolades in Sweden and in a vast cross-section of the European Union.
